Culture Whisper: Pergola on the Roof

Foodie pop-up atop a White City multi-story car park: Pergola on the roof brings our street food faves to the former BBC television centre

Everyone who loves food is a fan of some of the restaurants synonymous with London dining in 2016 - Salt Yard, Rabbit, Le Coq and Patty & Bun are some of the most popular places around. But with long queues, visiting them can be tricky. Which is why the upcoming Pergola On The Roof event sounds spectacular both when it comes to food - and in its unique setting.

Located on top of the multi-storey car park at the former BBC Television Centre in West London, it will be transformed into a Mediterranean fantasy 170 feet in the air, under a canopy of flowers. Each of the restaurants is producing a special bespoke menu, and the emphasis is on top-quality food at reasonable prices; no dish will cost more than £13 and many will start at £6. What's on offer is under wraps but we expect delicious burgers, freshly grilled scallops, spatchcock chicken and much more.

Tables can only be booked in groups of 6 (although we're assured that if you want to come in smaller groups that there'll be plenty of space for walk ins) and those who want a touch of luxury can book one of the day beds for 10 people. So relax, get your friends together, enjoy some delicious food and wine, and appreciate that the finer things in life can be had at less than bank-breaking prices.
