For most major cities around the world, drinking and dining on a rooftop has become a summertime staple activity. Unsurprisingly, there has been a serious influx of open-air eateries and lounges popping up everywhere—Chicago alone will see over 30 new rooftop spots debut just this year. And in Europe, more traditional sidewalk cafés have new competition in gorgeous garden terraces and perches with 360-degree views. In other words, instead of people-watching this summer, you may want to just look up.
Here are six rooftop spots to check out while in cities like New York, Chicago, London, and more.
Pergola on the Roof
Already a few weeks into its 14-week residency on top of the old BBC Television Centre in London’s Shepherd's Bush area, Pergola on the Roof is bringing a unique new dining experience to the city. Housed beneath vines and hanging flowers, the space offers food from four of London’s favorite casual dining spots: Rabbit, LeCoq, Patty & Bun, and Salt Yard. There are also two bars and seating available for 400 people, including daybeds you can book for bigger groups. The decor is bright and airy, designed to be a charming, stylish hidden garden in the middle of one of the world’s busiest cities.
